Let’s face it, no matter your experience, skill set or personality, we’ve all had that cringe worthy moment at least once at a photoshoot. There’s no escaping it and at the time it’s the MOST embarrassing moment EVER. Luckily as time goes on, we’re able to look back and view the situation through different eyes. Most of the time we’re even able to have a good laugh and acknowledge that it was all part of the wild journey to becoming a successful photographer.

Embarrassing moments happen to the best of us and can often happen when we least expect it! So just for a laugh we asked our Facebook group members to share their most embarrassing stories. The responses we got were so damn good we decided we HAD to share them with you.

“Told the dad while holding his baby that I have butterfingers...his eyes got soooo wide....I was like...Not with your baby!! Never with babies! Lol”

“A homeless man came right up behind me and very loudly said, “Your a** can take Kim Kardashian out of business!” RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY CLIENT 😳😖”

“I was second shooting a wedding and I told the MOB that the bride was pregnant not knowing the MOB didn't know her daughter was pregnant. The main photographer was the one that told me she was pregnant and she had no idea no one else knew as well.”

“When I accidentally pulled the wrong cord out of the wall (thinking it was my light cord) at a wedding reception and it was the DJ's equipment. All the music stopped suddenly and there I was with the cord in my hand! Absolutely mortifying. Ugh...why did I just make myself relive that! 😆”

“One of the most mortifying moments of my adult life - I farted. Y’all my stomach hates me. I drove over an hour to this shoot through rural South GA (aka no bathrooms that don’t look like Ted Bundy isn’t waiting for you). I managed to hold it in through the hour long shoot and as we were walking back to our vehicles the mom was walking with me & chatting... and it happened. It slipped out. Y’all I was fighting this fart with every fiber of my being, but that wasn’t enough. God’s sense of humor had it... I farted. Cue the awkward silence. I drug my shoe on the ground hoping she’d think that’s what she heard, but no. The smell. She knew... unless she had zero sense of smell, she knew EXACTLY what happened.

Oh my gosh... I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. No, they haven’t booked since 😂😂😂😂”

“During an engagement shoot, I definitely gained some weight before wearing these dress pants and because I didn't do laundry the night before I had no other options.

So the entire engagement shoot was perfectly fine, and I typically joke during them anyways.

So there's a wall that I wanted to jump down to get a low angle shot of a couple. I am not joking, but before I jumped down I was joking about how out of shape I was and that I should just commit to a cushy office job. I literally said "I bet you $5 my pants will rip as I jump down this wall"

Guess what....my pants did rip. And because no one shook on it no one owed me $5 lol.

“I was definitely embarrassed, but thank god I also don't take myself seriously during shoots and I make that apparent with couples, so I just joked about it for the rest of the shoot. For example "Look at your fiance as if he just ripped his pants"

*Photo below is the shot I took that ripped my pants

“This is the best and worst one of mine. One time I was shooting a wedding and the bride's cousin was the videographer. I knew him. He and groom both had names starting with “M”. The groom had a weird name situation too, like half of his family called him one name and the other half called him another. So I was kinda confused what name to call him all day.

Anyways, at one point, I say “Hey X, whisper something sweet into the bride's ear.”

Weirdly, the cousin videographer comes over to the bride laughing and tries to whisper in her ear. I said the videographer's name instead of the husband and I was soooo embarrassed. They jokingly teased me for it all day.”

“I was a break out leader at a workshop and my model couples were this adorable, very modest and religious couple, (I mean the wait until the wedding night type).

I was posing them up against a glass windowed building, only to realize that the Boudior workshop was on the inside, he turned to get a very full view of a lady from the backside up against the window right where I had his head sitting and I am pretty sure he was a new shade if red the rest of the shoot…”

“A bee stung me under my armpit right next to my breast in mid shoot out in the middle of a field. (Don’t ask how it got there because I have no clue) I was determined to finish that shoot so after yelling out “sh*t” really loud in front of the entire family and looking like an absolute nut and not being able to look at what happened due to the location I just carried on and told them I thought something might have bit me. Buuuuuut, within a few minutes my face started to slowly swell and before I knew it my lips had swelled like balloons (To which the husband noticed and pointed out). On top of that, she kept asking where I had been bit so she could maybe help but I didn’t want to tell her and I surely wasn’t going to show anyone. Apparently, I learned that day that I’m allergic to bees.”

“I was shooting a friend's wedding. I was near the backrow getting shots of the procession. I changed my camera battery before the ceremony started and put the old one in my small crossbody purse that I was wearing. Completely forgetting I had loose AA batteries also in the pocket, I didnt zip it back. Right before the ring bearer walked down I squatted to get more eye level with him but the purse got caught on my leg and poured the batteries all on the ground. I immediately turned red and wanted to cry! I was able to pick some up before the bride walked down 😬 she told me after that it was just the comic relief she needed to calm her nerves.”

“I sat on a cactus and my client had to pull the prongs (or whatever they are called) out of my butt...and I wasn’t wearing underwear”

“I accidentally got my red lipstick on the bride dress while taking detail shots of the dress. I wanted to cry! Luckily her sister in law was able to remove it before she had to put it on”

“During an engagement session I had the girl sit on a barrel and I said to the guy, "okay now come between her legs" and I meant "wrap your legs around him" we all had a good laugh. To this day we are super good friends 😂”

“I once bought a band new camera then had a session that afternoon but didn't realize my camera was in video mode so all the images were grainy and not a single one turned out. Then I redid it and my "new" camera went black on me so I said I was doing a project of the differences between a camera and my phone. They were in their 60’s and didn't even notice. I was so embarrassed I was almost crying. That was right when I started. I refunded and that was that.”

“I was shooting a small backyard wedding, & the aisle started from the back door so you had to walk through a patio and then walk down stairs. Well, at the end of the ceremony, I'm walking backwards taking the photos, I make it up the stairs with no problem but completely forgot there was a cement fire pit, that had a FIRE in it I should add, on the patio too and I backed, well actually fell right into it butt first. They said I literally did the stop, drop, & roll trying to get up! I was just trying to save my camera. Miraculously it didn't burn me, but I did have two nasty bruises about the size of a softball on my calves for 2-3 weeks😂😂! To add to my embarrassment, I was wearing a long dress so there's a possibility I may have flashed the bride & groom (don't know, didn't ask) and then naturally everyone exiting the ceremony coming back down the aisle was like OMG are you okay?! It was so mortifying. My only consolation is that there were only about 10 people there, IDK what I would've done if it was a huge wedding.😂😂😂”

“Maternity session. But I hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before because I had a newborn, but I told her to “stand over there” pointed “I’m going to do you right there.

When I realized what I said, we all just started laughing hysterically. I was mortified but she and her husband were super cool with it. #extremeexhaustion

FAQ's

What should I do if the weather turns bad during an outdoor photo shoot?

If the weather takes an unexpected turn, it's essential to have a backup plan. Consider rescheduling the shoot, relocating to an indoor or covered area, or embracing the new conditions for creative and unique shots.

What if my camera malfunctions or I run out of battery during a shoot?

Always carry backup equipment, including an extra camera body and fully charged batteries. If your camera fails, quickly switch to the backup to avoid missing essential shots.

How should I handle uncooperative or shy subjects during a photo shoot?

Building rapport and establishing a connection with your subjects is vital. If someone is uncooperative or shy, try to engage them in conversation, make them feel comfortable, and adjust your shooting approach to suit their personality and comfort level.

What steps can I take if I accidentally delete or lose photos during post-processing?

To prevent data loss, regularly back up your files. If photos are lost or deleted, there are data recovery tools available. However, prevention is key, so always back up your work to avoid such situations.
